What is CrossFit?

Simply put, CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high intensity. CrossFit workouts are difficult and challenging, but are scalable for individuals of all fitness levels. The competition can be with yourself or with others during group workouts. This allows us to effectively turn fitness into sport.

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our police, firefighter, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.

So, what does that mean?

It means that CrossFit workouts are different from normal training in that it is always different , done at a high intensity and anyone from the elderly to an MMA fighter or professional athlete can do it. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program that by design, is meant to test you physically and mentally.

At NorthLee CrossFit, we want you to enjoy your workout and get the most from it.  This is not a place to put on your headphones and run on a treadmill.  We want you to lift and drop those weights as loud as you want, grunt, sweat, cheer on other athletes and give it all you can!

What does varied, functional, intense and scalable mean?

Constantly Varied means that our WODs are never the same so your body won’t get use to the same movements causing the ”plateau” effect. The combinations of these movements are endless therefore making “Constantly Varied” pretty easy to come by. Periodically we will repeat WODs to gauge our progress.

We perform movements seen in everyday life like squatting, jumping, running, throwing, climbing, lifting, etc.  At North Lee CrossFit, we will teach you how to perform all of these movements, and more importantly, safely and efficiently to optimize your fitness.

Many WODs are timed and the idea is to complete the WOD as quickly and efficiently as possible while maintaining proper form and range of motion.  This style of training greatly increases your cardiovascular/respiratory endurance.
